The 2500 (desk) and 2554 (wall) series are the modern rendering of what many American homes and offices used to have. The wallphone has the large, easy-to-find hook for hanging up and both desk and wall models have clear, easy-to-read touchtone keypads, uncluttered by special function keys.
These are basic, single-line phones, with almost no special features, except for a flash key (models ending in 20F), a message lamp (models ending in 27M), or both (models ending in 27F).
Note that message waiting lamps on 2500 and 2554 phones are 90-volt only, which is available mainly on analog PBX systems. This type of message waiting lamp will not work with phone company voicemail. Nor will it work with a PBX that doesn't support the 90-volt signalling standard.
