Those familiar with the high-end telecom market will know the reputation of Canada's NORTEL, formerly Northern Telecom, formerly Northern Electric, which, among other things, made the phones for Bell Canada and also central office equipment used throughout North America.
Recently, Nortel decided to focus on its commercial phone systems and network software business and Aastra took over Nortel's small-office telephone products.
Several of the products have carried forward from the Nortel days - these are the Legacy series. We (and most industry insiders) still refer to all the products as "Nortel," but, when they arrive, they will say "Aastra" on the box and on the units.
