STOP - DON'T USE THAT OLD AC ADAPTOR WITH YOUR NEW PHONE!!!
My grandmother was a packrat and used to save all manner of odd things, "just in case." If she got a new nightgown for Christmas, she'd pack it away in her dresser and keep wearing the old one, saving the new one "just in case."
Apparently, some of our customers are like that, too, and like to save old cordless phone batteries and AC adaptors to use with new equipment they purchase from PHONE SOURCE, even though the new product always comes with a new AC Adaptor and (if appropriate to the product) a new rechargeable battery. Apparently, like my grandma, they plan to save the new AC adaptor and/or battery for a rainy day.
Unfortunately, in many cases, the old AC Adaptor is NOT comaptible with the new equipment. The problems this causes can be as serious as damage to the equipment and even smoke/fire. All AC Adptors and batteries are not the same, even if the plug fits. They can differ in several significant ways:
- AC versus DC: although generically refered to as "AC Adaptors," some produce AC current and some produce DC current. A mis-match between the adaptor and the product in this respect will always result in product failure.
- Polarity: In the case of DC-producing adapors, the polarity (which wire is positive, which is negative) varies among adaptors and is crucial to the functioning of the equipment attached to it.
- Voltage: Adaptors range in voltage from 3-4 volts up to 20v or more. Most consumer telephone products use 9-12 volt adaptors. Too high a voltage can burn out sensistive components.
- Current: The current rating of the adaptor is crucial; an adaptor that cannot produce the amount of current required by the device may shut down or even overheat.
Batteries differ, too, in voltage, polarity (which wire is positive), current capacity, and charging rate.
Use of any battery or AC adaptor other than the one shipped with a prodcut will void both the manufactuer's warranty and PHONE SOURCE's 30-day defective return guarantee and could result in damage to persons or property. PHONE SOURCE cannot be responsible for products damaged by failure to use the batteries and AC Adaptor shipped with the product nor is PHONE SOURCE responsible for incidental or consequential damages that may result.
Replacement of new products damaged by failure to follow product directions, including but not limited to failure to use the proper AC Adaptore and battery, will be done at the customer's expense.
